Voice of Russia, 'Anonymous is engaged in battle for truth over evil,' John Robles Interview of Christine Ann Sands, Oct. 20, 2013. Christine Ann Sands one of the chief organizers and one of the few public faces of Anonymous spoke to the Voice of Russia, in an exclusive interview, about the Million Mask March, Hacktivism, WikiLeaks and the truth movement. According to Ms. Sands the American people have been hijacked by evil forces that were behind the 9-11 attacks and that continue to control the US government, the media and political parties. After speaking to hundreds of journalists and former White House correspondents she came to the conclusion that the US mass media knows this but any journalist who might dare go against the “government line” faces losing their job. Ms. Sands says the people know something is wrong and this is where those fighting for truth such as Anonymous, Occupy and WikiLeaks come in. Massive marches and demonstrations are planned for November 5, 2013, in defense of the truth. Hello, this is John Robles, I’m speaking with Christine Ann Sands, she is the manager and domain owner of millionmaskmarch.org and a supporter of the Anonymous Hactivist Collective in the Occupy Movement. "In my view, Million Mask March on November 5 is a time for all to unite and to take a stand against worldwide political corruption and what I’ve put on the millionmaskmarch.org website is for Anonymous, Occupy and Wikileaks to unite all Hacktivists, Marchers and Occupiers, to stand together on November 5, united against political corruption."

OpEdNews, Pakistan TV Exposes bin Laden Killing Hoax and Documentary Exposes 9/11 Official Story, Paul Craig Roberts, Oct. 17, 2013. There is evidence that the story of the killing of Osama bin Laden and his burial at sea is false. Also, people who have been promoting 9/11 truth for many of these years will see that their labors have been well-rewarded: There is now a high-quality, carefully-documented film that dramatically shows the official story about 9/11 to be a fabrication through and through. A website in the UK, themindrenewed.com, that downloaded the video from the link in my original report of the Pakistani TV interview with Mohammad Bashir has posted the interview with the original English subtitles. You can view it. This interview of an eyewitness to the entire event is powerful evidence that the Obama regime's story of the killing of Osama bin Laden and his burial at sea is a hoax and a lie. Pakistani Samaa TV confirms that Bashir is who he says he is and that he lives next to the alleged bin Laden compound. Samaa TV also confirms that neighbors knew the residents of the "compound." There has never been any mention of the Bashir interview in the presstitute media.

Wikipedia, Orville Orhel Nix (April 16, 1911 – January 17, 1972)[1][2] was a witness to the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. His filming of the event is considered nearly as important as the more famous Abraham Zapruder film.[3]

Nix, reported to have only a fourth grade education, was an air conditioning engineer working for the General Services Administration in Dallas.[4][5] On November 22, 1963, he walked from his office in the Terminal Annex building located on the south side of Dealey Plaza to the northwest corner of the intersection of Main Street and Houston Street with a Keystone Auto-Zoom Model K-810 8 mm movie camera.[4][6] Nix filmed the motorcade as it entered the Plaza, then quickly moved 20 to 60 feet west of Houston Street to the south curb of Main Street where he captured the last part of the assassination and the grassy knoll in the background.[4][5] Shortly after the motorcade had left Dealey Plaza, he filmed people running from Main Street to Elm Street.[4][5]

Orville Nix's film is darker than the others, because he used Type A indoor film, and did not have the proper filter to correct this.[7]

The Nix film was obtained as a result of a notice that the FBI gave to film processing plants in the Dallas area, that the FBI would be interested in obtaining or knowing about any film they processed relating to the assassination. When Nix heard about this from his processor, he delivered the film to the FBI office in Dallas on December 1, 1963. It was returned to him three days later.

United Press International purchased the copyright for $5,000 and took possession of the original film from Nix on December 6, 1963. UPI distributed frame enlargements to its news subscribers the following day. The original was examined by the House Select Committee on Assassinations in 1978. When UPI returned the copyright and all its copies to the Nix family in 1992, the original film was missing. In 2002, the Nix family assigned the copyright of the film to the Dallas County Historical Foundation,[8][9] which operates the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.[10]

Nix was interviewed in 1966 by investigator Mark Lane for his documentary Rush to Judgment. In a filmed interview undertaken by Lane, he also stated that the film he received back was not identical to the one that he shot.[11] He told Lane that at the time of the assassination, he believed that the shots came from behind the fence on the grassy knoll, but was later told that conclusive proof existed that shots only came from the Texas School Book Depository and that he was convinced by this.[12] He was also interviewed by CBS News in 1967 for a television documentary on the Kennedy assassination.

Attorney and author Barr McClellan was a partner in the Clark Law Firm in Austin, Texas, which handled a significant portion of the business transactions of former President Lyndon Baines Johnson.  McClellan’s 2003 book on the subject exposed documents and testimony in support of a Texas conspiracy to kill President Kennedy for a variety of reasons, including the ascendancy of power and the protection of interests in both criminal and business matters. “Blood, Money & Power: How LBJ Killed JFK” stunned the world with its precise, factual support of the high-level conspiracy and players. As a national best-seller, the book ignited a maelstrom of media attention and a windfall of supporting evidence and testimony.
Now, as the nation approaches the 50th anniversary of the tragic Kennedy assassination, McClellan presents compelling new evidence in “The Verdict:  Justice for John Kennedy, Justice for America.” This powerful book reveals the motives, the methods and the money that made this assassination plot possible and ultimately successful. The conclusions are clear and the evidence is abundant: America wants answers and McClellan provides “The Verdict.”
Hannover House will support the book’s release with publicity and advertising, including McClellan’s appearance on several, national cable-news programs. Prior television appearances for McClellan include all three major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC), as well as CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, The History Channel and C-Span / Book TV. McClellan is also the father of former White House Press Secretary, Scott McClellan, and former Food & Drug Administration Director, Mark McClellan.
The new McClellan book will be coming to hardcover and eBook formats on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.  The prior McClellan Kennedy book, “Blood, Money & Power: How LBJ Killed JFK” will also be re-released in hardcover edition at that time, as well as made available for the first time ever onto the various eBook formats. “Blood, Money & Power…” sold more than 100,000 hardcover edition copies, and reached # 1 best-selling status for Amazon.com, and # 11 ranking on the New York Times best-sellers list.

An important book is LBJ: The Mastermind of the JFK Assassination (2011) by Phillip Nelson.

WJLA-TV (Washington, DC), Larry Sabato unveils new revelations on JFK assassination, Oct. 15, 2013. University of Virginia professor and political pundit Larry Sabato shared his revelations at the Newseum a detailed timeline of events in Dallas almost fifty years ago. It includes actual correspondence from local police such as former officer James C. Bowles, who managed police communication at the time of the assassination. He accompanied Sabato as he shared some of his discoveries. First up was debunking a prominent theory. “People still can't believe the murder of a great man could be carried out so simply by an idiot,” Bowles says. Sabato agreed. “The House Select Committee (came to) a conclusion that this dictabell recordings prove a conspiracy -- they do nothing of the sort,” Sabato says. Sabato believes other sounds are not shots but possibly a train or a motorcycle engine. After scouring police reports from the assassination Sabato found references to individuals on the grassy knoll with Secret Service ID's. But he says he discovered they were not government agents. “There were several Dallas policemen who reported seeing these people with credentials and this was immediately after the assassination and they were on the grassy knoll,” he says. To find out more about these and other mysteries Sabato urges people to read his book. At a local seller, none of the recent Kennedy books appeared to be flying off the shelves.

AL.com, JFK assassination researcher says conspiracy theory doesn't hold water, Debbie M. Lord, Oct. 14, 2013. A political scientist from the University of Virginia is disputing the theory that suggests Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, saying audio evidence purportedly of a fourth gunshot from somewhere in Dealey Plaza is flawed. A live webcast set for Tuesday will feature University of Virginia Center for Politics Director Larry Sabato who, a university press release said, will reveal his findings on  scanner traffic from the Dallas Police Department recorded on Nov. 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was murdered. The scanner traffic recordings were used by the House of Representatives in an investigation into the assassination to advance the theory of a possible conspiracy in Kennedy's death. Sabato will unveil his findings during a press conference at the Newseum in Washington. Sabato has written a new book on the assassination, "The Kennedy Half Century: The Presidency, Assassination, and Lasting Legacy of John F. Kennedy."

Over lunch the other day, we took a walk through the years since that day in Dallas, and the countless books, theories, iterations, nutcases and opportunists that followed. Epstein had a wry point to make: "The assassination didn't change history — Johnson merely carried out Kennedy's policies — but it did change media."
In the three years following the assassination — before Epstein's book — the media hardly breathed a doubtful word about the commission's conclusions. At least in the telling of the national media, there had never been a more exhaustive investigation. No stone left unturned. Doubts (the off-off Broadway play, MacBird!, claiming Lyndon Johnson had done it; the John Birch society blaming Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev) were risible and hyperbolic. "The margins stayed reliably marginalized," said Epstein. "The authorities stayed reliably authoritative."
Epstein, who would go on to be one of the great investigative journalists of the era, was not a press corps insider. He was an undergraduate at Cornell who wrote a letter to Chief Justice Warren asking to interview the members of the commission, which the national press corps — apparently accepting the official word as beyond question — had failed to do.
"None of these lawyers and commission members were bound by any secrecy agreement, as amazing as that might seem nowadays," Epstein continues to marvel. "Why didn't journalists from major news organizations interview these sources? Fifty years later, I still can't answer that question."
His interviews with the commission members — including Allen Dulles, Gerald Ford, Hale Boggs and John McCloy, and its young counsel, Arlen Specter — convinced him not that Lee Harvey Oswald hadn't shot the president, but that the commission's work was "brief, sporadic and incomplete."
"All of the investigators were lawyers, and, as lawyers, they were paid by the hour," says Epstein. Obtaining their pay records, he demonstrated that much of the investigation had taken place in less than 4 months, with important aspects dispatched in a few hours of billing time.
Inquest was a challenge not just to facts per se, but an explication about the nature of information itself. The commission leapt to the easy conclusion that Oswald had fired the gun, but failed to earnestly address the more pressing question: To what extent was the act of his own volition?
Epstein's was an existential debunking: "God was the Warren Report. And the Warren Report was dead."
The media, in one of its first collective spasms of self-doubt and self-defense, turned, in Epstein's word, "nihilistic."
It opened the doors to a near-absurdist level of discussion, glamorizing, among others in the debate, Mark Lane, the left-wing activist lawyer, whose monster best seller, Rush to Judgment, argued that Oswald was a patsy, framed by the right wing. Then there was New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, not just an obvious fraud but likely a demented one, who began prosecuting people for the crime. The national media rushed to New Orleans, remaining until Garrison's investigation collapsed into ignominy and disgrace.
Mainstream media sheepishly moved back to its original lone gunman view, lazily labeling all deviations to this position as conspiracy theories. But the cat was out of the bag. In the early 1970s, talk radio began its rise, not least of all as an outlet for Lane, Garrison and a legion of other assassination theorists.
Then politics and technology got added to the story.
Assassination theories converged with political bias (pick your enemy: Castro, LBJ, FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover, the Mafia), prompting new congressional investigations using the latest techniques. With audio tools, the House Assassination Committee said it found there were four shots (later debunked by newer technology). The Senate's Church Committee added a nuclear spectroscope to the study of the bullets. Always there was the Zapruder film, whose frame-by-fame study and Rashomon effect foreshadowed the onslaught of video evidence to come.
In the 1980s, from exhaustion alone, the arguments seemed finally laid to rest — until Hollywood revived them in 1991.
With the actual facts long muddied, director Oliver Stone turned Jim Garrison into a hero in his film JFK, going even further than Garrison in charging a massive, highest-levels conspiracy.
It remains the fundamental media divide: There's the mainstream media, putting everybody who questions the received wisdom of the press on the conspiracy spectrum; and there are the kooks and sociopaths, helping to sew doubt about all received wisdom.
Epstein opened the doors to the deluge but is perfectly content with the loner theory: Oswald took it upon himself to kill the president. (Epstein has a theory of a parallel conspiracy to kill Castro, which, unknowingly, crossed paths with and may have inspired Oswald's lone effort.)
AP, New poll finds that belief in JFK assassination conspiracy still strong, but slipping slightly, AP staff, including AP Director of Polling Jennifer Agiesta and News Survey Specialist Dennis Junius, May 18, 2013.  http://ap-gfkpoll.com/featured/our-latest-story-3  A clear majority of Americans still suspect there was a conspiracy behind President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, but the percentage who believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone is at its highest level since the mid-1960s, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. Cheryl Casati, 62, who retired from the Air Force after 20 years, watched it all unfold on television back in November 1963. She said she’s “extremely sure” there was a conspiracy. The killing of Oswald, the accused shooter, just days after the assassination is part of the reason why.  ”There’s too many holes in explanations,” the Phoenix-area woman said. “That just could not have happened easily in that time and place. And (Jack) Ruby shooting (Oswald) could not have happened as easily as it did.”  Pat Sicinski sees it differently. She and her husband recently visited the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas. Looking out the sixth-floor window from which Oswald allegedly fired on Kennedy’s motorcade helped reaffirm the retired school employee’s faith in the Warren Commission conclusion that Oswald was the lone gunman.  ”Some skepticism is always justified,” the 68-year-old Houston-area woman said. “I just think when people take it to extremes, they lose me.”  According to the AP-GfK survey, conducted in mid-April, 59 percent of Americans think multiple people were involved in a conspiracy to kill the president, while 24 percent think Oswald acted alone, and 16 percent are unsure. A 2003 Gallup poll found that 75 percent of Americans felt there was a conspiracy.  The Oswald-acted-alone results, meanwhile, are the highest since the period three years after the assassination, when 36 percent said one man was responsible for Kennedy’s death.Polls indicate that most Americans do not believe the Warren Commission’s key findings, and at least a dozen books have recently been published on the topic in addition to more than a thousand in previous years.  The Newseum is holding a major session on one such book Oct. 15. But that format lacks proportion.

NPC member Andrew Kreig – an investigative reporter and longtime DC-based author, non-profit executive, attorney and radio host – could provide a fresh and more comprehensive perspective with a consumer guide to the current research, which includes several major conferences this fall. Based on his research for the non-partisan Justice Integrity Project, he could summarize its prospective report later this fall on the pros and cons of current positions. This could be in either a standalone presentation or two-speaker format with a moderator.

Based on the new evidence, he and the legal reform group are prepared to call for a new official inquiry. He argues that the lack of official action has many ill-effects on the public, including unnecessary cynicism toward the courts, Congress and news media. Kreig is the author of a new book, “Presidential Puppetry,” surveying a century of history on the interaction of politics and security. He could describe findings in a Newsmaker on an exclusive basis or skip any book mention to provide a more academic / historical view of the JFK evidence.  Participants in a two-speaker format might include authors James Swanson (“End of Days”) or Gus Russo (“Brothers in Arms”/ 2008 and “Where Were You” with Tom Brokaw, 2013). Swanson and Russo are leading advocates for the traditional Warren Commission’s lone-assassin view of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Such a program would aptly complement the NPC’s previously scheduled JFK panel Oct. 30 and help fulfill the Club’s mission of hosting cutting-edge discussion on important topics.  The Oct. 30 panel will screen the forthcoming PBS documentary “JFK,” and convene a distinguished panel discuss how the media treated Kennedy and later presidents.  Speakers are Producer/Director Susan Bellows, “Robert Kennedy” author Evan Thomas, and “Grace and Power” author Sally Bedell Smith.  The film is innovative and powerful, according to reports from its press tour beginning in August. But the PBS screening would not overlap with the proposed JFK Newsmaker. “The picture they [PBS filmmakers] paint avoids the assassination and pop culture moments,” wrote the Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/jfk-docs-drawing-new-footage-601984). Aside from the Warren Commission Report, the PBS website list of recommended reading about JFK’s presidency contains none of the key books about the assassination. The Wall Street Journal this year counted 1,500 published.

Like the Lincoln presidency, JFK years are a rich, evergreen topic that filmmakers and historians will approach for decades in varied treatments that often skip the assassination.

Yet the Press Club, it seems to me, has special duty and opportunity to tackle the topic, especially on a 50th anniversary. This fall is a unique historical landmark at a time when many authors and other observers are passing from the scene. Interest in the controversy remains high. An AP/GFK Roper poll this year reported, “belief in JFK assassination conspiracy still strong.” The poll (http://ap-gfkpoll.com/featured/our-latest-story-3) reported that “59 percent of Americans think multiple people were involved in a conspiracy to kill the president, while 24 percent think Oswald acted alone.”

Based on emerging evidence that includes revelations regarding Cold War pressures at the highest levels, Andrew (with whom I discussed this last week at the Club) believes more than one shooter was involved. He is prepared to reveal how the ensuing mystery and inherent threat has affected later presidents. As evidence, he points especially to the forensic work of Dr. Cyril Wecht, the arguments of Air Force Col. Fletcher Prouty (the top Defense Department liaison to the CIA during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations) and the recent work of author James Douglas documenting how the ex-Marine Oswald was apparently a double agent who pretended to be a left-winger while operating on the FBI’s payroll. As further context, author and ABC-TV investigative editor James Bamford has revealed the Kennedy-era Joint Chiefs’ plan Operation Northwoods, underscoring the kind of animosity Prouty described in certain DoD and CIA circles against the president. From his unique vantage point, Prouty alleged in two books that CIA helped orchestrate the killing. He was a major source for Oliver Stone’s movie “JFK”). That era involves also one of Washington’s leading unsolved murders, the 1964 shooting on Georgetown’s canal path of JFK lover Mary Meyer --who was the ex-wife of a top CIA executive and media liaison Cord Meyer and also sister-in-law to Ben Bradlee.

Andrew can provide a detailed explanation of why he thinks Oswald was set up as a “patsy.” Oswald’s wife, brother, an FBI agent, and his CIA-linked mentor, the late oil engineer George de Morhenshildt, are among those arguing for Oswald’s innocence, which few in the public ever hear discussed in detail.

Andrew is prepared to survey the pros and cons of the evidence in a way valuable to mainstream audiences. If desired, he can add provocative conclusions drawn from his book research focusing on current relevance of Cold War national security operations. The 1970s Church Committee, and important 1977 article by Carl Bernstein regarding the CIA’s relationship with the Washington media.

A frequent volunteer to report Club events for the Wire, Andrew is prepared to take whatever tack might help the NPC create a successful Newsmaker. He is both an investigative reporter and as mainstream political commentator stemming from his early career at the Hartford Courant, co-hosting a radio show, and his frequent appearances on other shows.  You might recall that he forwarded to the committee the names of his recent radio guest Jesse Ventura along with Roger Stone in case the committee might have any interest.  He did so as a courtesy to the authors, their publishers, and club. As you know, we rejected Ventura and Stone because they seemed likely to use the NPC as a stepping stone on their book tours. By contrast, Andrew is a longtime member and is willing to calibrate any presentation to advance the club’s goals for exclusivity, mainstream interest, format, and wide media interest. He need not mention his book at all, especially in view of the Book Fair later this fall.

As further background, he has authored two investigative books on politics and the media (including “Spiked,” a pioneering case study of news media changes on the NPC library shelf). He has focused his writing in recent years on documenting misconduct by judges and prosecutors. His weekly public affairs radio show “Washington Update” has interviewed more than 200 authors, politicians and other newsmakers in is seven-year history. “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in the World” have listed him since the mid-1990s. His law degrees are from both Yale and the University of Chicago Law Schools. He practiced with the major national law firm Latham & Watkins. He ran DC-based Wireless Communications Association for a dozen years as president before resuming his journalism career in 2008 with appointments as a research fellow at two universities.  He has spoken on five continents, including as co-keynoter with AOL’s chairman at NAB’s annual “Futures Summit” for top broadcasters, and appeared on more than 100 radio, TV and cable shows as a commentator.

For such reasons, I think this topic on the schedule could advance the club’s mantra, “Where News Happens.”

Such authors as James Swanson skip including President Obama. Christopher Edley, a former leader in the Obama 2008 transition and now dean of the University of California’s law school at Berkeley, told him, for example, that the transition team advised the president to avoid prosecuting Bush-era crimes by the CIA because of a possibility of “revolt” by those antagonized.

Via the committee, the NPC We are looking for someone who can speak about the Kennedy assassination as As the 50th anniversary approaches. Investigative reporter, author, attorney, non-profit executive, and NPC member Andrew Kreig provides a fresh perspective.

As a student of the topic, he can provide a consumer guide to the dozen recent books focused on the assassination. The books range from confirmations of the Warren Commission report to rejection of its findings. Andrew is attending both of the major conferences this fall focused on the anniversary. He has studied the work of the leading defenders of the report and its critics.

Based on emerging evidence that includes revelations regarding Cold War pressures at the highest levels, Andrew believes more than one shooter was involved. He is prepared to reveal how the ensuing mystery and inherent threat has affected later presidents. As evidence, he points especially to the forensic work of Dr. Cyril Wecht, the arguments of Air Force Col. Fletcher Prouty (the top Defense Department liaison to the CIA during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations) and the recent work of James Douglas documenting ex-Marine Lee Harvey Oswald’s double agent status of pretending to be a left-winger while operating on the FBI’s payroll. Andrew can provide a detailed explanation of why he thinks Lee Harvey Oswald was set up as a “patsy.” Oswald’s wife, brother, an FBI agent, and his CIA-linked mentor, the late oil engineer George de Morhenshildt, are among those arguing for his innocence.

Surveys suggest many if not most in the public are skeptical of the official chronology. On Oct. 30, our main NPC event regarding JFK’s life provides no indication of addressing such issues. If we want somebody to provide a fresh perspective based on evidence, I think Andrew would give a great presentation. As further background, he runs the non-partisan Justice Integrity Project, has authored two investigative books on politics and the media, hosts a weekly public affairs radio show, and has been listed in “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in the World” since the mid-1990s. His law degrees are from both Yale and the University of Chicago Law Schools, and he has spoken on five continents, including as co-keynoter with AOL’s chairman at NAB’s annual “Futures Summit” for top broadcasters. He is a frequent contributor to NPC’s Wire covering visiting speakers

Sabato has written a new book on the assassination, The Kennedy Half Century: The Presidency, Assassination, and Lasting Legacy of John F. Kennedy.

USA Today, Wolff: JFK and 50 years of conspiracy, Michael Wolff, Oct. 13, 2013. Edward Jay Epstein is the journalist who opened the Pandora's Box of conspiracy theories in 1966. Edward Jay Epstein is the first journalist to have investigated the official accounts of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He remains the only one to have interviewed all the members of the Warren Commission — the ad hoc group of political heavies impaneled by then-president Lyndon Johnson to lay to rest all questions in the case — save for Chief Justice Earl Warren himself. Epstein's book, Inquest, published in 1966, arguably began the modern conspiracy business. The JFK Assassination Diary: My Search for Answers to the Mystery of the Century, his contemporaneous account of his byplay with the commission's members and staff — and later efforts to see the trees though the conspiracy theories — has just been published in time for next month's 50th anniversary of the great crime.

JFK Facts, Top 5 JFK files Brennan should make public, Jefferson Morley, Feb. 5, 2013. As confirmation hearings for John Brennan as the new director of the CIA get underway this week, the Senate and the public face basic issues of trust and transparency. How does the director of a necessarily secretive multi-billion-dollar agency retain public trust and maintain accountability within the democratically elected government? One way is to come clean on the JFK story, especially the role of top CIA officials in the JFK story. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy is an important symbolic test of the CIA’s credibility. A poll taken in 2003 found 34 percent of respondents held the agency responsible for JFK’s death. There’s no “smoking gun” proof of a JFK conspiracy, but there is a pattern of suspicious activity on the part of some senior CIA operatives that has never been clarified. As Robert F. Kennedy Jr, recently said in Dallas, even his father Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy privately feared “rogue CIA” operatives were involved in his brother’s assassination. In the face of such widespread doubts, the CIA’s best option in 2013 — its only politically realistic option — is to be transparent, especially about one of Brennan’s most controversial predecessors, the late Richard Helms, the director of the CIA from 1967 to 1973.

Conservative Intelligence Briefing, Kennedy Assassination, Staff report, Jan. 25, 2013. Conservative Intelligence Briefing is proud to announce a partnership with Harper Polling.  Starting with a poll this week that covers everything from Obama to the Kennedy Assassination, Harper Polling will be providing several polls through Conservative Intelligence Briefing a month. Last week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized the findings of the Warren Commission’s official account of his uncle’s assassination. He claimed his father, the President’s brother, called the Commission a “shoddy piece of craftsmanship” and was himself convinced others were involved beyond Lee Harvey Oswald. Since every voting-age American has written a school report on President Kennedy’s assassination, we thought we’d survey an educated audience. Question: Regarding the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, do you believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, or others helped Oswald plan and carry out the assassination? It’s pretty remarkable that only a quarter (25%) of the people believe the central finding of the Warren Commission.  Nearly twice as many people (45%) believe there was a conspiracy to assassinate our 35th President. There is not a lot of variation in the numbers. Though Kennedy was a Democrat, voters of his party (45%) are no more likely than Republicans (45%) to buy the single bullet theory. Self-avowed Liberals are the most likely to believe that Oswald acted alone (29%-38%). Very Conservative voters are the most likely to believe that others helped Oswald (49%-22%). The Kennedy assassination is one of the iconic debates in American society. Over time, the silver bullet theory has not held up well in the minds of the public. Whatever you believe, this 889-page legal document has no chance against JFK in the court of public opinion.

New poll finds that belief in JFK assassination conspiracy still strong, but slipping slightly In defense of the administration’s position, the legal scholar Laurence H. Tribe, who taught President Obama at Harvard Law School, has insisted, as he put it two years ago, that “only political courage and compromise” can avert disaster.

These assertions, however, have no basis in the history of the 14th Amendment; indeed, they distort that history, and in doing so shackle the president. In fact, that record clearly shows that Congress intended the amendment to prevent precisely the abuses that the current House Republicans blithely condone.

Congress passed the 14th Amendment and sent it to the states for ratification in June 1866. Its section on the public debt began as an effort to ensure that the government would not be liable for debts accrued by the defeated Confederacy, but also to ensure that its own debt would be honored.

That was important because conservative Northern Democrats, many of whom had sympathized with the Confederacy, were in a position to obstruct or deny repayment on the full value of the public debt by paying creditors in depreciated paper money, or “greenbacks.” This effective repudiation of obligations already accrued — to, among others, hundreds of thousands of Union pensioners and widows, as well as investors — would destroy confidence in the government and endanger the economy.

As the wording of the amendment evolved during the Congressional debate, the principle of the debt’s inviolability became a general proposition, applicable not just to the Civil War debt but to all future accrued debts of the United States. The Republican Senate leader, Benjamin F. Wade of Ohio, declared that by placing the debt “under the guardianship of the Constitution,” investors would be spared from being “subject to the varying majorities which may arise in Congress.”

Two years later, on the verge of the amendment’s ratification, its champions inside the Republican Party made their intentions absolutely clear, proclaiming in their 1868 party platform that “national honor requires the payment of the public indebtedness in the utmost good faith to all creditors at home and abroad,” and pronouncing any repudiation of the debt “a national crime.”

More than three generations later, in 1935, Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes, ruling in the case of Perry v. the United States, revisited the amendment and affirmed the “fundamental principle” that Congress may not “alter or destroy” debts already incurred.

House Republicans threatening to refuse to raise the debt ceiling — that is, force a repudiation of debts already accrued — would violate that “fundamental principle” of the Constitution.

Surely the lawyers advising and defending the White House, let alone the president, know as much. Refraining from stating this loudly and clearly, and allowing Congress to slip off the hook, has been a puzzling and self-defeating strategy, leading to the crippling sequester and the politics of chronic debt-ceiling crisis. More important, by failing to clarify the constitutional principles involved, the administration has neglected to do its utmost to defend the Constitution.

Hollywood Reporter, JFK Docs Draw on New Footage, Staff report, August, 2013. The picture they [PBS filmmakers] paint avoids the assassination and pop culture moments.

AP, New poll finds that belief in JFK assassination conspiracy still strong, but slipping slightly, AP staff, including AP Director of Polling Jennifer Agiesta and News Survey Specialist Dennis Junius, May 18, 2013.   A clear majority of Americans still suspect there was a conspiracy behind President John F. The Oswald-acted-alone results, meanwhile, are the highest since the period three years after the assassination, when 36 percent said one man was responsible for Kennedy’s death.

Fox News, Poll: Most Believe 'Cover-Up' of JFK Assassination Facts, Staff report, June 18, 2004. A majority of the public believes the assassination of President John F. Kennedy was part of a larger conspiracy, not the act of one man.

Polls indicate that most Americans do not believe the Warren Commission’s key findings, and at least a dozen books have recently been published on the topic in addition to more than a thousand in previous years.

She's now a dedicated peace and justice activist and board member of the Women Against Military Madness. Rob Kall: My rough interview notes -- mostly my questions. RK: You recently traveled to Moscow to present an award to Edward Snowden. Can you tell us about the award?" Sam Adam Associates for Integrity in Intelligence. RK: What was the setting? Ray McGovern, Tom Drake, Jessalyn Radick presented the award with Coleen Rowley. What did you learn from Snowden? Snowden would like to see the Patriot Act and the FISA amendments repealed (portions) It's interesting that the legislation was by Justin Amash, a tea party member.

Ray McGovernOpEd News, Edward Snowden's Brave Integrity, Ray McGovern, Oct. 15, 2013. Ray McGovern, left, is a peace activist and former career CIA officer whose agency duties included assisting in the daily briefings for two presidents. President Obama says he welcomes the debate on post-9/11 surveillance of Americans and the world, but that debate was only made meaningful by the disclosures of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, who was then indicted and sought asylum in Russia, where he just met with some ex-U.S. intelligence officials, including Ray McGovern.

BBC, Ex-Halliburton manager admits destroying oil spill data, Staff report, Oct. 15, 2013. The Deepwater Horizon rig blast led to a massive oil spill. An ex-manager of US energy services giant Halliburton has admitted destroying evidence linked to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Anthony Badalamenti, 62, pleaded guilty in a US district court, and faces a maximum sentence of a year in prison. The disaster -- the biggest offshore oil spill in US history -- was caused by an explosion at the Deepwater Horizon rig, which killed 11 people.

Washington Post, As Hillary Clinton rakes in awards, is this her pre-campaign campaign? Philip Rucker, Oct. 15, 2013. While she weighs a presidential run, the former secretary of state has picked up at least 15 awards.

Paul Craig RobertsOpEdNews, Stand Up Americans! Paul Craig Roberts, left, Oct. 15, 2013. In less than 2 days, if the Treasury secretary can be believed, the Treasury will not have enough money to pay all its bills and will have to prioritize. This doesn't mean default, as interest on Treasury bonds, notes, and bills will be right up there with the military and NSA. If Washington defaults on its bonds, Washington's power will be gone with the wind regardless of whether the Treasury pays the military. Whatever the outcome, Washington has already cooked its goose. Washington's prestige and credibility have been hammered. China, Washington's largest foreign creditor, has responded to Washington's inability to govern itself with a call for a de-Americanized world. The state news agency, speaking for the Chinese government, said that the "days when the destinies of others are in the hands of a hypocritical nation have to be terminated, and a new world order should be put in place."

images/B arack_Obama_Situation_Room_WH.jpgTruthdig via OpEd News, The Folly of Empire, Chris Hedges, left, Oct. 14, 2013. A nation that was still rooted in reality would never glorify charlatans such as Sen. Ted Cruz, House Speaker John Boehner Chris Hedgesand former Speaker Newt Gingrich as they pollute the airwaves. If we had any idea what was really happening to us we would have turned in fury against Barack Obama, right, whose signature legacy will be utter capitulation to the demands of Wall Street, the fossil fuel industry, the military-industrial complex and the security and surveillance state. We would have rallied behind those few, such as Ralph Nader, who denounced a monetary system based on gambling and the endless printing of money and condemned the willful wrecking of the ecosystem. We would have mutinied. We would have turned the ship back. The populations of dying empires are passive because they are lotus-eaters. There is a narcotic-like reverie among those barreling toward oblivion. They retreat into the sexual, the tawdry and the inane, retreats that are momentarily pleasurable but ensure self-destruction. They naively trust it will all work out. It is collective self-delusion, a retreat into magical thinking.

Washington Post, NSA collects millions of e-mail address books globally, Barton Gellman and Ashkan Soltani, Oct. 14, 2013. The National Security Agency is harvesting hundreds of millions of contact lists from personal e-mail and instant messaging accounts around the world, many of them belonging to Americans, according to senior intelligence officials and top secret documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The collection program, which has not been disclosed before, intercepts e-mail address books and “buddy lists” from instant messaging services as they move across global data links. Online services often transmit those contacts when a user logs on, composes a message, or synchronizes a computer or mobile device with information stored on remote servers. During a single day last year, the NSA’s Special Source Operations branch collected 444,743 e-mail address books from Yahoo, 105,068 from Hotmail, 82,857 from Facebook, 33,697 from Gmail and 22,881 from unspecified other providers, according to an internal NSA PowerPoint presentation. Those figures, described as a typical daily intake in the document, correspond to a rate of more than 250 million per year.

Guardian via OpEdNews, The Perfect Epitaph For Establishment Journalism, Glenn Greenwald, Oct. 14, 2013. Like many people, I've spent years writing and speaking about the lethal power-subservient pathologies plaguing establishment journalism in the west. But this morning, I feel a bit like all of that was wasted time and energy, because this new column by career British journalist Chris Blackhurst -- an executive with and, until a few months ago, the editor of the UK daily calling itself "The Independent" -- contains a headline that says everything that needs to be said about the sickly state of establishment journalism: "If MI5 warns that this is not in the public interest who am I to disbelieve them?" says the former editor of The Independent. In other words, if the government tells me I shouldn't publish something, who am I as a journalist to disobey? Put that on the tombstone of western establishment journalism. It perfectly encapsulates the death spiral of large journalistic outlets.

Huffington Post, Glenn Greenwald Leaving The Guardian For 'Momentous' New Venture, Jack Mirkinson, Oct. 14, 2013. Glenn Greenwald is leaving the Guardian for a new, as-yet-undescribed website, BuzzFeed reported Tuesday.  Greenwald did not specify what his new project would look like, describing it only as a "momentous new venture" and a "once-in-a-career-dream journalistic opportunity that no journalist could possibly decline." He said that the site would be a general-interest outlet, that he would be responsible for its journalism output, and that it had substantial money behind it.

Forbes, Obamacare's Website Is Crashing Because It Doesn't Want You To Know How Costly Its Plans Are, Avik Roy, Oct. 14, 2013. The Healthcare.gov website requires that individuals looking for coverage enter personal information before comparing plans. IT experts believe that this requirement is causing the website to crash. A growing consensus of IT experts, outside and inside the government, have figured out a principal reason why the website for Obamacare’s federally-sponsored insurance exchange is crashing. Healthcare.gov forces you to create an account and enter detailed personal information before you can start shopping. This, in turn, creates a massive traffic bottleneck, as the government verifies your information and decides whether or not you’re eligible for subsidies. HHS bureaucrats knew this would make the website run more slowly. But they were more afraid that letting people see the underlying cost of Obamacare’s insurance plans would scare people away.
